NAU Country's Senior Vice President of Branch Operations for the Great Lakes region received the distinguished Industry Leadership award at the recent 2023 Crop Insurance Industry Annual Convention held in Bonita Springs, Florida. Congratulations to John on this well deserved honor!

(BONITA SPRINGS, Fl.) John McDermott is a recipient of the 2023 Industry Leadership Award for consistently serving the industry and providing outstanding leadership to National Crop Insurance Services (NCIS) and the crop insurance industry. The award was presented during the 2023 Crop Insurance Industry Annual Convention in Bonita Springs, Florida.

John started in the crop insurance industry in Charles City, Iowa, as an independent agent in 1984. He was a multi-line agent, including selling and servicing Multi-Peril Crop Insurance and Crop-Hail Insurance. In 1989, John went to work for North Central Crop Insurance (NCCI) as a field representative. In those days, field reps were responsible for producing business and managing claims. John became an accomplished claims adjuster and had success in producing business for North Central. He was promoted to the North Central Home Office in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and became responsible for underwriting in addition to producing the business. In time, John went to work for NAU Country Insurance Company with many other North Central personnel and became the National Marketing Manager in NAU’s Ramsey, Minnesota, home office. In 2015, John moved back to Eau Claire to assume the Senior Vice President of Branch Operations position for the Great Lakes region.

Over the many years that John has been in the crop insurance industry, he has been involved in numerous capacities, including being an independent agent, marketing, claims, and underwriting that make the industry successful. During his career, he has mentored many individuals in doing their part to provide service to the American farmer. Under his leadership in the Great Lakes Branch office, the region has increased significantly in market share. Anyone who has ever worked with John would say he is a great person and dedicated to crop insurance.

John was involved in the NCIS Regional/State Committees and supported their activity in any way he could. He was also a member of the NCIS Public Relations Committee, what is now the Communications & Outreach Committee, for a few years and contributed to the success of that Committee during his tenure. John was always a member that served on behalf of the crop insurance industry.
